Robert Brown Collection
Robert Brown (1917 – 2009) was one of Glendale’s most prominent and prolific artists-serigrapher, ceramicist, glassmaker, sculptor, painter, and arts educator. Upon his death at age 92 his daughter Janice Reilly made a generous gift of his prodigious body of work to the Brand Associates. Brown loved the Brand Library and had exhibited in its gallery many times. His “Suburb” and “Opposite But Equal” both won honors in juried exhibitions and were curated into the Purchase Award Collection. In 2010, the Associates mounted a retrospective show of Brown’s work. Another month-long show opened July 9, 2011 at Kent Bulza’s New Puppy Gallery in Los Angeles. Proceeds from the sale of Brown’s works benefit the Brand Associates in support of cultural events offered free to the public. Jane Friend Purchase Award Collection
Jane Friend (1918 – 2011) was a watercolorist, arts activist, and co-founder of Brand Associates. She was also a past president of the organization. Jane founded our Brand National Juried Art Exhibition in 1971. The exhibition, held annually, has steadily increased in size and diversity of submissions and includes the work of both emerging and established artists. The Brand Associates are extremely proud of our roster of distinguished jurors. At each exhibition, the Brand Associates recognizes an outstanding work of art by purchasing it for our permanent collection. In 2012 the Brand Associates renamed the collection the “Jane Friend Purchase Award Collection” in honor of the work Jane did for the organization and as show founder and organizer for 35 consecutive years. Prominent Los Angeles muralist Kent Twitchell will jury the 43rd annual show in 2015.
